Your  vibrating Heart Chakra is all about love, air, social identity….

It’s also about balance, equilibrium, and well-being.

If  we ask what is well-being and  how we want to live — what we seek from life, what makes life meaningful for us, most of us will agree that the goal of all our goals is happiness.

Most definitions of happiness,  Eric Fromm, (Great humanistic philosopher of the 20th century, as explored by Maria Popova in “Brain Pickings Weekly”  March 27th ), observes,” converge at some version of having our needs met and our wishes fulfilled — but this raises the question of what it is we actually want…. It’s essentially a question about human nature — or, rather, about the interplay of nature and nurture mediated by norms. Adding to the vocabulary of gardening as a metaphor for understanding happiness and making sense of mastery, Fromm illustrates his point:

This is indeed well understood by any gardener. The aim of the life of a rosebush is to be all that is inherent as potentiality in the rosebush: that its leaves are well developed and that its flower is the most perfect rose that can grow out of this seed. The gardener knows, then, in order to reach this aim he must follow certain norms that have been empirically found. The rosebush needs a specific kind of soil, of moisture, of temperature, of sun and shade. It is up to the gardener to provide these things if he wants to have beautiful roses. But even without his help the rosebush tries to provide itself with the optimum of needs. It can do nothing about moisture and soil, but it can do something about sun and temperature by growing “crooked,” in the direction of the sun, provided there is such an opportunity. Why would not the same hold true for the human species?

Even if we had no theoretical knowledge about the reasons for the norms that are conducive to man’s optimal growth and functioning, experience tells us just as much as it tells the gardener. Therein lies the reason that all great teachers of man have arrived at essentially the same norms for living, the essence of these norms being that the overcoming of greed, illusions, and hate, and the attainment of love and compassion, are the conditions for attaining optimal being. Drawing conclusions from empirical evidence, even if we cannot explain the evidence theoretically, is a perfectly sound and by no means “unscientific” method, although the scientists’ ideal will remain, to discover the laws behind the empirical evidence.

He distills the basic principle of life’s ultimate aim:

The goal of living [is] to grow optimally according to the conditions of human existence and thus to become fully what one potentially is; to let reason or experience guide us to the understanding of what norms are conducive to well-being, given the nature of man that reason enables us to understand.
But one of the essential ingredients of well-being, Fromm notes, has been gruesomely warped by capitalist industrial society — the idea of freedom and its attainment by the individual:

Liberation has been exclusively applied to liberation from outside forces; by the middle class from feudalism, by the working class from capitalism, by the peoples in Africa and Asia from imperialism.

Such external liberation, Fromm argues, is essentially political liberation — an inherently limiting pseudo-liberation, which can obscure the emergence of various forms of imprisonment and entrapment within the political system. He writes:

This is the case in Western democracy, where political liberation hides the fact of dependency in many disguises… Man can be a slave even without being put in chains… The outer chains have simply been put inside of man. The desires and thoughts that the suggestion apparatus of society fills him with, chain him more thoroughly than outer chains. This is so because man can at least be aware of outer chains but be unaware of inner chains, carrying them with the illusion that he is free. He can try to overthrow the outer chains, but how can he rid himself of chains of whose existence he is unaware?

Any attempt to overcome the possibly fatal crisis of the industrialized part of the world, and perhaps of the human race, must begin with the understanding of the nature of both outer and inner chains; it must be based on the liberation of man in the classic, humanist sense as well as in the modern, political and social sense… The only realistic aim is total liberation, a goal that may well be called radical (or revolutionary) humanism.

The two most pernicious chains keeping us from liberation, Fromm observes, are our culture’s property-driven materialism and our individual intrinsic tendencies toward narcissism…..”

Those internal ‘chains’ clog up the free flow of Universal energy -chi-Prana that allow our very essence to expand and give off the fragrance of our one-of-a-kindness.

SOUNDS:  Meditation Music for Clearing the Heart Chakra to allow your love energy to fill the air and vibrate with the sounds.  One I found was Miraculous Healing Music for Heart Chakra (Anahata) by Meditative Music-Meditative Mind

CRYSTALS: “The fair and lovely Rose Quartz, with its gentle pink essence, is a stone of the heart, a Crystal of Unconditional Love.     Rose Quartz also inspires the love of beauty, in oneself and others, in nature, and especially that which stimulates the imagination – art, music and the written word.”

AROMAS: The highest frequency Essential oil: ROSE

MEDITATION:  Visualize a pink rose in your Spring green heart energy field.

From the OSHO Mystic rose Meditation : Our lives can become just a utility –” just a function which any robot can do.

“The only thing that the robot cannot do is meditation. In other words, I am saying that those who are not in meditation are being robots, without being aware that they are just utilities, functions, they are needed.

But a person of meditation   realizes that it does not matter whether they are needed or not – they are a joy unto themselves. They are bliss, they do not depend on anybody  or anyTHING to make themselves blissful. That is the only freedom possible in the world. Otherwise we are a slave in chains.

                                                 pink rose petals

“I would like people to understand it absolutely that unless you become blissful on your own accord, unless your rose opens within your own being, you are just a commodity, just a thing, an object. Meditation reveals your subjectivity. Subjectivity is your consciousness, and your consciousness and its experience makes your life significant, meaningful, eternal, immortal, without any beginning and without any end. A celebration, moment-to-moment a dance.

And unless you have caste aside the chains of slavery and transformed your life into a moment-to-moment dance you have missed the opportunity that existence gives you.”

YOGA:   Poses (Asanas )that enliven the heart chakra include passive chest openers in which we arch gently over a blanket or bolster, shoulder stretches such as the arm positions of Cow Face (Gomukhasana)heart chakra of Cow face Pose Comukhasanaand Garudasana (Eagle Pose),

and backbends.

Heart Chakra backbend

Being an even-numbered, feminine chakra, the heart center naturally yearns to release and let go. Doing backbends develops the trust and surrender we need to open the heart fully. When we feel fearful, there is no room for love, and our bodies show contraction. When we choose love, the fear melts away, and our practice takes on a joyful quality. In many backbending poses, the heart is positioned higher than the head. It’s wonderfully refreshing to let the mind drop away from the top position and instead lead with the heart.

Some signs that the heart chakra is overpowering your life can include co-dependency, possessiveness, jealousy, heart disease, and high blood pressure. For these symptoms, forward bends are the best antidote, because they are grounding and foster introspection. While people with deficient heart chakras need to open to receive love more fully, those with excessive heart chakras find healing by slowing down to discover inside themselves the nourishment they have been seeking from others.

SEE YA LATER:

“If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall.  I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry-go-rounds. I would pick more daisies. “~Nadine Stair

We choose how to live each day, and we choose the type of person we want to be.  Unfortunately, we often choose the type of person that we think others want to see rather than the person we truly are, and that prevents us from going barefoot early in the spring or spending time picking daisies when we could be “being productive.”

How about slinging off the chains of expectations and finding something to do today that doesn’t take much time at all, or commercial ‘possessions’, but is truly enjoyable?  Why not do it? And then keep on doing it each day!!  Experience FREEDOM to just be sparkling YOU doing what you like to do.

LOVE Heart Chakra Wednesday

The HEART Chakra , resonating with Wednesdays, is located in the center of the chest, its element is Air, and it rules the heart and lungs. The Heart Chakra is where we integrate our masculine and feminine energy as well as our human self and True Self. Within our Heart Chakra, we can raise our consciousness through the power of love or lower our consciousness through the power of fear. Many cultures think of our Heart Chakra as the Seat of our Soul. We have a lower Heart Chakra, whose color is green, and a higher Heart Chakra, thymus area, whose color is pink. The Higher Heart Chakra rules unconditional love for all, and the Lower Heart Chakra rules human love. Therefore, the Heart Chakra rules all of our relationships, our perception of love, and our ability to give and receive it, with others and with ourselves and with our Higher Self. Ultimately, the primary focus of the Heart Chakra is to balance Wisdom, Power, and Love, in our relationships and in our actions.

When the Heart chakra is clear and in balance, we have compassion for all life, we are empathic, and we can see the Divine in other people. We are humanitarian and nurturing, and we can express and receive abundant love. We are happy and fulfilled because we are fulfilling our Divine Purpose in service to humanity. Our sense of self is not limited to the ego, our consciousness is expanded, and we realize that to love others is to love ourselves, because we are all one.

CRYSTALS:  Set out and give intention to Pink Quartz or Jade crystals—–Jade is a stone of the heart. As such it is related to the heart chakra and has a beneficial effect on all heart chakra related issues. It can attract and enhance love of all kinds, given that intention. It is also a stone of fidelity and generosity. It is also considered to be good for the physical heart and for emotional balance and stability. It is used in crystal healing for increasing self-reliance. Jade is  very helpful as a stone of abundance, energized by its color.

FRAGRANCE:  Rose EO    —–The spiritual influence of Rose has been known for thousands of years. Rose has the highest spiritual frequency of all essential oils. It opens the heart chakra, stimulates the thymus gland’s immune fighting properties and allows one to feel unconditional love.——It is also one of the most expensive oils – in order to produce 1kg of pure essential rose oil, 4000 kg of rose petals are needed.

The thymus  located in front of  heart energy chakra, and in front of the physical  heart, just under your sternum, is a specialized  organ of the immune system. Within the thymus, T cells or T lymphocytes mature. T cells are critical to the adaptive immune system, where the body adapts specifically to foreign invaders.   The heart chakra is closely woven into the endocrine system and Rose essential oil can be used to affect the hormonal balance of the body by triggering the glands into action or by balancing its hormonal secretion in some way.

The thymus gland (essential for the immunological system of the body), works as a reflex centre for higher levels of consciousness.   John ONeill suggests that this chakra is where “intent” originates, that it links the emotions of the heart with the reason of language.ONeill goes on to say “The Thymic chakra is where “intent” originates, it is the link between the emotions of the heart and the reason of language. It is what makes you inhale a breath before you speak, since this is where the intent behind the words you are about to speak actually starts forming. So, lets say that your heart feels a certain way about something that it would like to voice. The energy shoots up  from the heart center to the Throat chakra but passes through the Thymic area first, giving it a heads up to start getting prepared to speak by drawing a breath – or by stopping the breath to prevent you from speaking. This is why you don’t always say what’s on the tip of your tongue. This is also why emotions can wreck havoc with your health, as the Thymic  area of the heart chakra can be bombarded by emotions to the point of fatigue.  The Rose EO calms the area.   The Thymic chakra acts as something of a “lie detector” by interfering with energy that is not truthful. This is why we have trouble speaking when we are upset. The flow of energy from the heart is always meant to be peaceful and that’s really the only kind of energy that the Thymic  area of the heart chakra “understands”)  That is pretty much the looong story of why Rose and other essential oils can affect our chakra system of energies.

MEDITATION:   Heart Chakra is connected to the element of air so  tune into the love that flows all around you.   Harmonize with the powerful emotion of love. Allow your heart to connect to the beat of the hearts of those around you and guide you as you dance along the path of life. It is a good idea to have the most harmonic music you can find on your playlist today.

Mudra for the Heart Chakra.—Join the tips of your thumb and index finger on both hands together. The other three fingers should be joined and stretched straight up together.   Rest each hand on its corresponding knee.   You can also hold either or both of your hands in this position over your heart.    The heart chakra has governance over compassion and love. The Gyan Mudra helps to heal those attributes focusing on our ability to be generous and to share happiness. This helps us to be mindful and aware, of ourselves and of others. This mudra also bestows an ability within all who practice it to give off compassionate energy to others they come in contact with. Repeat the chant ‘YAM’ (Yaaaaaaa-uummmmmmm)

Meditation:  Lie comfortably with your spine straight. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.                 Take a deep inhalation, and on the exhale hug your arms around your body. Give yourself a squeeze.              As you exhale, release your arms and feel yourself open, yet connected to the earth.         Lift your chin slightly and position yourself as if your heart were to lead you in all things.                 As you continue to breathe, imagine that you are emptying yourself completely. You are letting everything flow out of you with your breath.              In the space between the exhale and the inhale, there is a slow, steady rhythm. This rhythm stays with you and guides you as you move through each breath.                    Focus for a moment on the rhythm, which is the beating of your heart. Each pulse pumps life through your body.             Feel the vitality increase as you focus on this steady, subtle, internal music. Hearing this sound fills you with an effortless grace. It reminds you of all that is beautiful, all that is lovely, all that is joyful.                     This rhythm is what allows you to harmonize with the world around you – connecting you in ways you haven’t even begun to imagine.                      In this state, imagine each pulse of your heart sending a course of love energy through your body.                        On your next inhalation, fill your entire body with love and let it course through you.                            With each beat of your heart, love grows and hums until its rhythm becomes a steady, resounding song that carries you throughout the rest of your day.

Repeat the following: “I listen to my heart and honor its connection to the hearts of others. I allow love to fill me up and guide me in all of my actions. I gracefully move to the rhythm of life.”

Continue to let this feeling flow and deepen with each breath.            When you feel ready, open your eyes and move with love and motion through the rest of your day.

Today,  I suddenly realized that the jubilant feeling I get walking out a door into the warm Texas air is LOVE.  It fills my very being with comforting peace and joy.  I get the same bursting feeling looking at flowers.  Right now I am looking out the window at the pink flowering crabapple tree in the yard and the feeling is almost too much to contain.  Funny, I never realized, until this morning, that the feeling has a name: LOVE.  Love is all around.   I am LOVE,          I had the same feeling when I hugged our son yesterday.  So joyous and exhilarating with no real words for it.

I oft have the feeling that  words have a way of obscuring or warping the true meanings of their objects. “Words belong to each other,” and so they are more accountable to other words than to the often unnamable essences of the things they signify” (from Maria Popova in Brain Pickings)  M. Popova explores this idea of naming things with reference to Robin Wall Kimmerer, a Thoreau of botany,  who explores with extraordinary elegance in Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses —-a beautiful meditation on the art of attentiveness to life at all scales.  Kimmerer sees the power of naming as an intimate mode of knowing. As the progeny of a long lineage of Native American storytellers, she sees the power of naming as a mode of sacramental communion with the world.  So perhaps my naming my feelings, Love, is a new attentiveness, an expression of the heart that the throat and thymus are just releasing.  Try naming some of the unexpressed emotions of your heart and let me know what you found.

Green– instinctively , we tend to lean toward green when in need of balance or harmony.  Green relaxes the heart.  For added heart energy today  place your hands on either side of a plant (if none are available at your house use one at the grocery store) and breathe in its color and vitality.

Throughout your day  feel LOVE in the air and repeat:  “I do not have to DO anything to be loved, and being who I am does not let others down.  Simply be who I am and LOVE what is before me in this moment for that is all there is”.  NAME that feeling from your heart.
